And don't forget; that UFO (and other images)you used were done by other artists and they most likely spent lots of time on their work as well. The least thing you should do is credit the images you use. You like the images? Why not supporting the original artist?
The District 9 UFO's as well as a lot of other stuff are textures which I used at the beginning of the painting to set an idea .. they are altered but yes you can call it frankensteined if you like..
Generally if I take parts of some one elses picture I usually do credit them. But I dont even know who designed the ship or did the work there.. So If I would add the line "Ships are altered version of District 9's ship" whats the use ? One in 10000 would maybe think he wants to rewatch the movie.. Maybe you can explain to me whats the benefit if I add this line ? Does anybody feel insulted ?
Furthermore I get most of my textures from cgtextures.com. This sort of mattepainting technique saves loads of time thats why a lot of artists use it...
I also used a lot of my own taken photos and you don't have to credit cgtextures, although I do in most of my other images.
But since you asked for it.. I did remove the "no ref used" although it was meant like.. I did start with myown sketch and didn't take someone elses idea. So I used literally no reference but textures. anyways that might be confusing to some so I removed it.
I hope I didn't insult you or anyone else..
thx for sharing !
It is okay using reference pictures if it helps, but at least it would be nice to mention it, or make a link to the original image. If it is your own textures, of course this doesn't need to be mentioned.
Another thing that should not be forgotten are the lawsuits.:/
With the UFO; If I would have used it in my drawing, I would mention it that it belongs to District 9. As much as I know that UFO was done by Greg Broadmore [link] .
Just please Imagine it !
cheers to your critique !
